Lazy Sunday

Hi guys! I enjoyed a lovely weekend home alone with my sister. It's some kind of tradition that we always take silly pictures when we're home together, and today was no different! I took my baby camera and we gave the best of ourselves in our fall-ish (if that's even a word) garden. My little sis (she's 16, but she'll always be the little one) is the cutest EVER:

She's so cute I almost want to eat her. Also, she has pretty shoes:
Too bad we differ in shoe size :( Otherwise they would've been on my feet now. We often wear each other's clothes (She only wants to wear my "normal stuff" though, aka no midi skirts, red sweater or retro dresses. BOO! :D)
Here she's trying on my coat AND shoes:

Yes, that's me you see in the reflection of the door :) Please don't mind the terrrible mess on the background: we're currently camping in the kitchen as the living and dining room are being painted! Nothing special, a sort of beige and brown. Anyway, we also cooked and this is what me made (before we put it in the oven of course, we didn't eat raw mince!):
Yummie <3 I love cooking and I always try out new things! I cringe at the idea of having to eat the combination of potatoes, vegetables and meat or something like that every day. There are even people who have only 7 different meals in their cooking repertoire: f.e. on Monday they have apple sauce and sausage, on Tuesday they have spaghetti etc. And that every single week! I think I'd die. I'd rather spend half of the day preparing a lovely meal than just open a can of ravioli or get a pizza. Haha, now I remind myself of Bree Van Der Kamp when her son Andrew suggest they have sausages and beans for dinner instead of her five course dinner. I 'm such a housewife :D

I also dressed appropriately: inspired by 50s-60s housewifes and Betty Draper I pulled my floral skirt out of the closet and combined it with my new knit sweater that I love and that the rest of my family hate:

This is my 'Boo, they don't like my clothes' -face.
I know the belt doesn't match, but I didn't have a matching one. I could've gone without it, but Betty  Draper never wears loose sweaters so belt IT IS. If you want to play the Mad Men vibe, do it right :D

This is my 'I love my clothes and I don't care what they think' face :D

Now I'm off to bed (after my daily episode of Desperate Housewifes - COME ON Bree!) Hope you had a great weekend!

Awesomeness

3 Reasons why this day is awesome:
- Trying out my new camera (!!!!)
- Wearing my favourite vintage skirt
- Buying a turban headband that I'm complete in love with!

Guys, I got my new/secondhand DSLR camera yesterday and OMG this is awesome! I still have to find out a lot on how work with it, but I managed to take some nice pics yet! I feel so proud, haha. Wanna see?

Looks cool, no? I need to perfect my skills some more, but I like my new photos. From now on, I'll be glued to this camera!
Delicious meal we made yesterday:
Linguini with aubergines, tomatoes, chili, ricotta and fresh basil <3

I wore my favourite vintage skirt today, I got it a few months ago in T2, my favourite vintage shop. They're having their sales again as we speak, today everything was 2 euros. 2! EUROS!! Unfortunately I didn't find so many nice pieces, except for a vintage wedding dress I've been eyeing on and that I bought for 2 euros! Haha you'll say I'm crazy to buy a wedding dress that even has a stain on it and is slightly see-through (my boyfriend thinks I am totally crazy. Don't worry, I'm not getting married soon!) but I love it and you never know I need it to go to a fancy dress party with a vintage bridal theme or something. YOU NEVER KNOW
I guess I can always wear it as a night gown in the meantime :D

So, the famous skirt:

I don't care if some of my friends call this my grandma skirt, midi skirts are hot people! (Sorry if the photos are slightly blurry, taking photos with timer and no tripod or remote is quite hard)
Equally hot is my new headband, turban style:
yeah, the camera's good, the model's still working on it!

Pretty cool, right? I found an even cooler one at H&M, similar to this one Valentine is wearing, but they only had it in grey, beige and a orangey colour that didn't match my hair :( staying fashionable in winter is hard, I tell ya! :D
Crazy pose to end:
Wearing:
Skirt: T2 Vintage
Headband, T-shirt: H&M
Shoes, tights: New Look

Et si tu n'existais pas

Last weekend I went shopping with my mum and sister, and I had some birthday money left so I bought myself a  new coat! I actually already bought a lovely winter coat last year in the sales, but a girl needs variation, no? I love the sixties vibe and the cute collar! I took some pictures on my roof again! (I promise I'll look for a proper location soon)

Lovely, isn't it? My outfit is not really special, but it's all about the coat, wayo :D I wore a shorter dress today and I actually looked even better. Pictures to come!

Goofy :D Also, my hair looks strange, thinking about getting a haircut soon!

I'm sorry for the awful lighting, it was getting dark already when I took (i.e. I forced my boyfriend to take them) these pictures! I could also take them in the morning but you know, when it's cold your warm bed is so much more attractive :D and the whole process of climbing through my window is too much to handle at 8 in the morning:
LOL :D
Exciting news of the day: We booked our trip to Paris! We're going from the 2nd till the 5th of November as we're having two days off school then. We'll be staying in this übercool apartment, check it out because it looks awesome! I'll surely take a lot of pictures BECAUSE I bought a new camera!!! Okay, it's a secondhand one and a few years old, but it's a DSLR with two lenses and a bag and everything and I only paid 150 euros. Crazy isn't it?! I bought a Pentax K100D Super, if you're interested :) The guy I bought it from lives at the other side of the country, so my boyfriend is getting my precious this weekend. Can't stand the fact that he'll be able to use it before I even touched it! GRRRRR
Anyway, I can't wait to be in Paris (haven't been there since I was 14, on a school trip), it's our first sort of holiday together <3

Enjoy your evening lovelies!

PS: My delicious home-made korma with chicken I made a few days ago:

I love the fact that there's an exotic supermarket nearby where they sell awesome Indian currypaste and other cool stuff that you never find in regular stores!

Fiddler on the roof

This post has absolutely nothing to do with the musical play Fiddler on the roof, but these pictures were taken on my roof and the first thing popping into my head when thinking of a good title that has anything to do with roof was this one, okay??? I mean, 'redhead on the roof' or something like that doesn't sound as right, don't you think?
(Also: am going to stop say ROOF now.)

I'm not really allowed to go here, but of course I did. From now on, parties at my place are on the roof, baby! For your own good, don't wear a skirt because you have to climb through my velux window to get there. Quite tricky, and the first time I tried it, I got stuck and hurt my knee. But it's worth it, trust me. I think I found my new study corner:

I'm in love with my Arabic book (that's the nerdiest thing to say, isn't it?) I mean, look at the cover! Have you  ever seen a study book that pretty? Don't judge a book by its cover though, because on the inside it's filled with difficult texts, a kazillion new words to memorise and a lot of grammar to learn. But still loving it!

Outfit of the day: just something casual. I wore this yesterday (SHOCK: I wear my clothes two days!!!) with heels, but this city is really killing my feet. So today flats were a better choice. And I've no idea what's going on with the weather: a few days ago I was freezing when I walked around in my skirt and tights, and today the sun is shining and it's really warm! Wonder what's next...

Stupid crane ruining my view.

I also want to apologise for the lack of post this week, I've been so busy with schoolwork and also very tired. I hope that from today on I'll be able to post every two days or so! I already found some pretty places to take outfit pictures, so I'll get around that next week. Hope you have a great weekend!

Wearing:
Jeans: H&M
Sweater: Esprit
Flats: New Look
Sunglasses: got them for free, yay :D

Awkward & Awesome

I have to admit that I actually took this idea from Mr. Taylor and his Lady, but I liked it and since I don't have a lot of inspiration or time to blog, I just decided to steal it. Nah.

Awkward
- Stepping outside the door and discovering someone threw up right next to my front door. Twice.
- Dropping my keys and flashing the entire street while the wind blows my skirt over my head.
- Going swimming and an old grey ponytailed guy touched my ass.
- In the same swimming pool: trying to open my locker for about 20 minutes, while being watched and laughed at by almost half the pool.
- Riding home from the swimming pool and flashing my underwear AGAIN. This is becoming my habit!
- Get up at 7.30 am for class on a Friday morning, couldn't find the class room and had to ask someone, who pointed out that I was practically standing next to the room I was looking for. D'OH

Awesome
- Arabic oral class: time for iPad, facebook, gossip and cookies instead of practising verbs!
- Cooking for my friends and them saying it was the best meal they had in months.
- Reading the Arabic online newspaper everyday and understanding more and more of it!
- Finally booking our trip to Paris in this amazing apartment.
- Spending the afternoon with Mad Men and chocolate cookies. Yeah, again.
- Hearing that we get the chance to go on Erasmus next year. Spain, here I come!
- So many people commenting how good I looked with that red River Island dress. Your comments make my day!<3
- Taking goofy webcam pictures with the boyfriend.
- Changing my blogname & url into Shoes and Polka Dots in a few days, shorter and easier!
- Finding the perfect red pumps!
- New poster I bought for my room:
Il Bacio, Venezia, Italia - Venice, Italy

Hope you have a great weekend! Mine will be all about catching up on sleep, studying and blogging :)

Summer Evening

I just wanted to share this picture I took of the gorgeous sunset tonight:

Including: blurry photo of myself. You're welcome.

Today was the wedding of someone from the orchestra I play in, and they asked to play some lovely songs on their wedding ceremony. We played 'You are the sunshine of my life' by Stevie Wonder (such a beautiful song, it almsot made me cry!), Gabriel's Oboe and 'Everybody needs somebody' by the Blues Brothers when they left the church! The ceremony was beautiful, and being the romantic soul I am, I had a hard time not to blink a tear. I wasn't invited to the evening party because I'm not that close to the married couple, but that didn't stop me from creating this quite spectaculair (if I may say so myself) hairstyle, or as I call it, my bird's nest:

Bathroom pictures ftw! I used Amber's messy bun head tutorial, you can find it here.

Now my episode of Mad Men and a crème brûlée are waiting for me (I know, how exciting is my life, eh???) so enjoy your evening!
