Project Blogway: Rock Chick

I don't like my outfit of today. It's not really ME. But the reason why I forced myself to wear this rock chick look is of the Project Blogway contest I'm participating in! The lovely Manon organized this blogger competition, I think it's a great initiative to bring Belgian bloggers together. Every blogger who joins has to submit an outfit, and there's a weekly theme. So this week's theme is Rock Chick, and I had some difficulties to dress rock chick-like: At the moment my closet is filled with dresses, skirts, polka dots, florals and bright colours rather than black, leather, studs or other rock chick appropriate clothing. But a few years ago, I was in a rock/metal/emo phase (we all have that phase in puberty, don't we?) so I still had my Arafat-scarf in the back of my closet, and a more gothic looking dress. Wanna see?

Dress: H&M
Shoes: New Look
Scarf: Found on a market in Germany
Tights: H&M
Belts: my sister's
The photo isn't great quality, but what did you expert (I feel like Uma Thurman in that stupid Schweppes commercial now, haha) from a photoshoot failure like me? I do like my red wall though, I think I'll make this my usual photoshoot location.

So what do you think? It's not very creative or original, but I had to work with what I've got!

I look angry on every single picture I took, maybe it's because when I think of 'rock chick', I think of Taylor Momsen and she's always frowning too. Or maybe I just don't like my outfit, or my shoes that already started to hurt after wearing them for ten minutes.

Anyway, I hope I'm not out in the first round already, all the other bloggers look so good! But I tell myself that participating is more important than winning, right?

I'm really getting back in the blogging rhythm, I wasn't able to update much this month because of my exams, but now that they're over, I'll try to blog every two days from now on! I already have lots of inspiration and posts in my head :)

PS: To make me feel better, I wanted to share a photo where I do look good at once! And my boyfriend loves this pic, so darling, this one's for you ;)

EDIT: You can vote for my outfit now on the Project Blogway website! I'll be forever grateful ;)

This girl has been shopping...

Hello my lovers! Are you enjoying the beautiful weather too? I stayed inside almost the entire day, because it was just too hot for me outside! I didn't sit in the sun because a) I don't have sunscreen here and therefore I will look like a tomato after sitting in the sun for longer than ten minutes and b) I love my pale skin, so I just decided not to get a tan, HA!

Anyway, I had my second last exam this morning and it went better than I had expected, but still difficult! Philosophy is just not my cup of tea... But to reward myself for the hard effort, I went shopping. A little. I just went to H&M and OMG the sales have already started! So I bought these:

A blue pleat skirt and a black pencil skirt,  10 euros each! The hat and sunglasses I bought from Facebook. Apparently 'facebook shops', where people sell stuff they don't need anymore for ridiculously low prices (I bought the hat for 2 euros and the sunglasses for 1,5 euro) are the new thing now! You just browse through the pictures of clothes, accessories, jewellery etc. and bid on an item you want! Easy peasy :) You can find some lovely items here (This 'shop' is from Leuven, but I suppose you have them for every big city. It's easier for picking up the items so you don't have to go to the other side of the country to get them)

I also went to Think Twice Vintage, Annebeth's favourite vintage shop. After seeing so many beautiful dresses and skirts she bought there, I'd definitely wanted to check it out. And OMG, this store is like vintage PARADISE! Not kidding, I think I tried on about ten skirts and dresses. And everything is between 7 and 20 euros! Compared to 'normal' stores today, that's really cheap. So I ended up buying two skirts:

God, I'm really into skirts lately! They're both pleated skirts, each one cost 10 euros! I'm so going back there. I already saw a pretty dress, but apparently it was 'new collection' so it will be available in five weeks, so that sucks.
Seriously, still not over that shopping experience! I've visited vintage shops before, but they only had smelly old clothes that nobody wanted or haute couture vintage that was waaaaaay too expensive. Thank God for T2 Vintage, I'm addicted already!

Now my wallet is empty, so it's time to go studying again, I have my last exam on Wednesday (Turkish, yay!) but it will be easy, so instead of learning Turkish grammar and vocabulary I watched Desperate Housewives on my pc. I love that series, and it was the only thing I was capable to today in this freakingly hot weather. And my room is on the second floor and on the sunny side of the house so it's almost like a sauna here. I am sweating like a pig all day! Very attractive, yes.

PS: I always pin my hair up when I'm studying, usually in a bun or pony tail, but a few days ago I tried something crazy (it's quite messy, I know there are some tutorials on youtube on making this hairstyle but I just tried some things out):

My boyfriend called me Minnie Mouse for the rest of the evening :)

Hairspray

Yesterday I watched Hairspray, one of my favourite movies. I love the story, it really makes you think about the way we judge people by their appearances, whether it's their size or the colour of their skin. And I agree with Annebeth, I like the fact that the handsome guy falls in love with the not-so-perfect girl! You should really read her post about the movie, it's so much better written than mine :) After watching the movie yesterday, I had a whole text prepared in my head, but after today, the only thing in my head is philosophy... I think I'm going crazy.
Anyway, another reason why I love this movie is because of the costumes! Being a sucker for fifties-sixties style, I watch Hairspray drooling over the dresses and perfect hairstyles.

I know she's the bitch in the movie, but aren't her dresses adorable?
I think I love the outfits of the black people even more, so colourful and pretty.

Sight. Now I'm really dying to make my own fifities-style dress and learn to dance like those fellas. I watched the movie a few years ago with a friend, and on the DVD there was an extra feature where you could learn the dance moves of the movie! Of course we tried it, but it was just SO DIFFICULT! No idea how they do it. But one day, I'll learn it...

Oh, Seaweed <3
Do you love Hairspray?

Inspiration

Hello my lovers!

I've been doing almost nothing but studying for my exams, so I didn't really have time or inspiration to blog! My life is pretty boring right now, so nothing to blog about I'm afraid... But I searched for some lovely photos instead! Most of them I took from my tumblr (Pay a visit if  you didn't already) I could spend hours browsing through all those beautiful pictures on Tumblr! Seriously, it's my new addiction.

Normally I'd add the sources, but if you check my Tumblr, you will see them there. Hope you like them, I'm thinking of doing more of these inspirations posts so let me know what you think!

PS: I bought ANOTHER pair of shoes a few days ago! (I know, I know...) A pair of red ballet flats from H&M, only €10! Well yes, I needed a pair of red flats. And they matched my new red uhm, underwear. SCORE
Now I only need that perfect red lipstick I've been dreaming about and I'll be totally matchy-matchy!

PPS: I still didn't get my pictures on the same size, I think I should resize them in Photoshop or something, but you know, I'm the laziest person in the world so yeah... I'll figure it out, SOMETIME. I promise!

PPPS: It's been like AGES since I did my last Shoe Challenge, I'm so way behind! I just keep buying more shoes and not taking outfit photos. But, as soon as my exams are over I'll charge my sista' with the awesome job of taking my outfit pictures! Hope it will be better than last time we tried to do that...

And now I'm really off!

New shoes + inspiration

Don't you just hate it when the postman doesn't ring the bell but just leaves a note that you should get your package at the post office? Gah.
Especially when your package contains these:

(Sorry for the slightly blurry pic, my camera is acting weird lately... Time for a new one, me thinks)
Anyway, my new shoes! I got them in the New Look sale, for only £10 (not that I would spend more on canvas flats. Heels, however...)

I love them, althought they're not really 'my style': I even had to get used to walking without heels, haha!
My mum was kinda reluctant too, she asked what on earth I would wear with them. Well, I got inspired by some of these looks:

Serena Van Der Woodsen in Gossip Girl

The Style Voyager

Can't wait to wear them on holiday!

Fail of the day: this morning I read an article on brunetteblogging.com: Kim wrote that it annoys her when pictures on a blog aren't the same size and I thought: Yes, that annoys me too! And now I notice my picture sizing look like shit, whoops. In my defence: I'm such a noob on photo editing that I have now idea how to fix this... Anyone who can help?
(Feeling so dumb now.)

Anyway, two days to go before my first exam! No stress (yet) but just can't wait till exams are over, in desperate need of SHOPPING BABY

Do you like my new shoes?

Family party

Last weekend, there was a party for my little niece (I still call her 'little' because she's the youngest of our family, but she's 12 already), and the whole family was invited. My aunt organised a whole day in 'Western theme-style', we even had to bring our cowboy hat (I didn't, because it didn't match my dress. Fashion above everything!). We were invited at 9 am for a delicious breakfast:
Don't mind my face, I guess I was overwhelmed by all the yummie food! And it was quite early in the morning...

As I said, the theme was Western, so there was also this:

A rodeo bull! (I hope that's the correct word, but I think you all see what I mean?)
As you can see, I quite enjoyed the ride. I managed to stay on it for almost 30 seconds. Score!

From left to right: Jana (my 'little' niece, who is in fact almost as tall as me, but I'm cheating because I'm wearing heels), me, my cousin Jorn, my niece Nina and my sister Fem. Or as my uncle called this photo: Jorn and his harem. Don't we all have that 'funny' uncle in our family? Well, I have 3 of them. Such fun!
(If you're reading this, uncles: love you!)

My sister didn't want me to publish this photo because her hair looked a little bit uhm, wild. Sorry, sis!

After breakfast and a bull ride, it was still a surprise where we would go next! As for me, I had to take the train to Leuven to study, because I couldn't allow myself another day of not studying. But as I heard from the rest of my family, it was a lot of fun! They did a tour with a little train, had some delicious food, learned how to line dance and saw an Elvis impersonator, haha. I enjoyed uuuhm, the studying. NOT.

I love the dress I'm wearing btw, it's 50s inspired and from New Look, so pretty and cheap! I wore my green shoes that day, but I wish I had brought my flats, because by the end of the day my three Blisters had made their comeback. YAY

I wish I took some photos of my entire outfit, so I could make a Shoe Challenge of it. Ah well, I  will definitely wear those shoes again! And that dress <3
