Short post: Vegetarian cooking

This post is about a site with delicious recipes, but it's a Dutch site (sorry, English people!) so I'll write this post in Dutch.

MUST. RESIST.

Hopelijk hebben jullie er iets aan, deze site staat alleszins bovenaan mijn favorieten!

Groetjes,

Vintage shopping

Today I did my first vintage shopping, at Kringwinkel in Leuven! I always thought that they only sell old and dirty stuff in vintage shops, but I was completely wrong. Here's what I bought:

Handbag: 5,25 euros (it was 25% off), scarf and belt: both 1 euro

Two little dishes, 30 cent each, saucher (I will use it as a soap dish): 10 cent, cocktail glass: 50 cent

I'm very happy to have found such nice things for so little money! I'll definitely go back.
I also saw some nice clothes, but unfortunately they didn't fit. They do have some nice clothes (between many ugly ones) but mostly not my size...

I had been looking for a cocktail glass like this for a long time, and now I found one for only 50 cent! From now on, I'll only use this glass, even to drink water or something...

Drinking cherry juice from my cocktail glass :) I look rather strange...

I actually only went to donate my hair dryer because I have a new one, but I'm glad I visited the shop. If I need any plates or glasses, I know where to go now!

Do you like vintage/charity shopping? Any shops you think I should visit?

11 random things you didn't know about me

So, I’m not feeling very inspired today, so I put together a list of random things you didn’t know about me. Because I’m so interesting of course. And I just like making lists.

1. I try to eat vegetarian as much as possible. I eat meat only once or maximum twice a week, and I still eat fish and scampi’s (So I’m not a real vegetarian), but I do my best. I do it because it’s healthy, good for the environment and I just like it.

2. I play two instruments: piano and bassoon. I graduated from music school last year, and I’m a little bit sad I don’t play often anymore (because I can’t take my bassoon with me to Leuven).

3. I can speak four languages: Dutch, French, English and German; and I’m learning two: Arabic and Turkish. I studied Latin in high school, but that doesn’t count because 1) I can’t speak it, 2) Nobody speaks it, and 3) I hate it! I really love learning new languages, so I don’t think I will stop after I can speak Arabic fluently. I would like to speak Spanish too, and maybe a little bit of Italian. Oh, and maybe Hindi or Swahili… Just in case ;)

4. I was bullied in school because of my hair (like most of the ginger kinds), and I just don’t understand why. Also, facebook groups like ‘Gingers have no soul’ really make me sad. Not because they hurt me, but because some people are so stupid to think such things. If you’re interested, you can read this post by Amber, she really expresses how I feel about the whole ‘ginger’ thing. I had to read a text in the lesson of English last year and I chose to read this one, and I got a lot of positive reactions on it!
I love my hair, and I would never dye it (Except when it’s getting grey. I’m going for the Vivienne Westwood-look when I’m old, haha).

5. I’m really loving vintage at the moment, but sadly I don’t find a lot of nice/cheap dresses I like… There aren’t a lot of vintage stores here, unfortunately! I would love to wear 50’s dresses all day, you wouldn’t day that if you look at me now, but I adore fifties en retro style. Now I need to find all those cintage stores other people buy their beautiful dresses...

6. I love shoes, but I hate my feet. I hardly ever wear sandals outside because I hate seeing my feet and other people seeing them. They’re big (I’m a size 8/41) and just not pretty. Luckily I don’t live in a country where you can wear sandals or flip flops more than 3 months a year!

7. At the moment, I’m really obsessed with Sex And The City. I’ve seen all episodes more than once already, but I can watch it over and over again. The last episode ‘An American Girl In Paris’ makes me cry every time.

8. Which leads us to the next: I can get very emotional watching a movie or even reading a book. And every time I see someone cry, it makes me cry too. I still cry when I watch Snow White and the seven dwarfs (yes, the Disney movie) and Snow White has died… (Oh come on, isn’t that the saddest thing ever? See it yourself here)

9. I want to see the whole world. Not literally of course, but I really want to travel a lot (when I have a lot of money) and visit all beautiful places in the world. It doesn’t help that I learn about the Middle East, because now I want to go there so much.

10. I was surprised to see that I get more visitors than a few weeks ago, till I found out they were all Google searchers looking for a picture of the Aristocats. I just posted a photo of a little cat on this post, to show you that a pair of shoes made me think of a cat’s whiskers… Didn’t know so many people were interested in a picture of the Aristocats.

11. I’m a big Harry Potter fan. I’ve read all the books about ten times, watched all the movies and even got 3 Harry Potter games and a Hogwarts cape from Saint Nicolas when I was 10. You can imagine how disappointed I was when I turned eleven and didn’t get a letter from Hogwarts…

Shoe Challenge #3: Simple

Just a quick post about my latest shoe challenge:

What: black ballet flats from Sacha
With: jeans: ONLY, T-shirt: Pimkie, blazer: H&M
When: Wednesday, March 16, 2011
Where: Just going to uni

I'm sorry for the quite strange pose and smile: this was probably the 45th photo I made, and the only one where my eyes weren't closed, my feet were visible and I don't look like I haven't slept for days! My camera really has a talent for making me look bad...

Anyway, I was so relieved to finaly have one proper picture that I forgot to make one of the shoes, whoops. But they're nothing special: just my good old ballerina's I wear when I don't want to wear heels (doesn't happen very often, but still!). I think I'll need new flats because they're already a little bit worn out and just because you need a new pair of flats al least once every year, don't you?

We've had two days of beautiful weather here: Some girls even were bare legged! I was very pleased that I could leave my winter coat at home and wear this blazer! I don't wear it that often, because it looks so 'business-woman'. But I rolled up the sleeves and I like it because it's more casual.

I was looking forward to start wearing my summer clothes, but now it's raining and about 9 degrees, gah. Come on, spring...

Yellow dreams

Oh my. I just stumbled upon these gorgeous shoes:
New Look Bright Suede Courts, £49.99

I just love the color and the suede uppers! And in my defense:
- I don't have a pair of yellow shoes yet.
- They're not extremely high, so I could wear them to school. In fact, I'd wear them all the time!
- I haven't bought shoes since two months ago!

The downside is that they're £49,99 + shipping rates (they're limited edition so not available in stores here, I think) what makes them more than 60 euros so a little bit too expensive right now.

But I think I'll just hop over to New Look in Brussels next week to see and try them on if they have them in store :) Oh, and I still have a voucher of €15, so that makes them less expensive! Oh babies, come to me...

If you'd want to buy a pair for yourself (or for me, you never know...), click here.

My extraordinary weekend (not really)

My weekend always starts on Thursday at 4pm, because I don’t have classes on Friday. Last Thursday my boyfriend came to Leuven (he didn’t have school this week, the lucky bastard) and we went to a Moroccan restaurant, Koutoubiya – كوتوبية. I took couscous with vegetables and it was delicious! I even had a little chat in Arabic with the waiter, I felt so proud when he understood what I was saying! I’m really looking forward to going on holiday to the Middle-East and North-Africa so I can speak Arabic to the local people. (I have already been to Morocco and Jordan.) And also because it’s just so beautiful there…

Keep on dreaming...
On Friday afternoon, I went for a little drive with the car with my mum. I’m still learning to drive, but as I have my driving test (to get my driver’s license) on the 6th of May, I have less than two months to practise! It’s freaking me out. I’m already quite good at the driving part, but parking the car is still very difficult for me. The car doesn’t go where I want it to go! Luckily I haven’t caused any accidents (yet), but I’m still afraid that I will hit another car or a person. Please other drivers, stay at home on May 6th between 9 and 10am, it’s for your own safety!

In the meantime, I’m practising on Parking Mania, a game on Facebook:

I’m very good. Ahum.

On Saturday evening, I went to see Black Swan with my sister. I think it’s one of the best movies I’ve ever seen! I was really overwhelmed. And now I’m stuck with this song in my head all day:

We managed to embarrass ourselves: We wanted to buy popcorn and cola, and I had 4 euros and my sister said “Oh, I have 5 euros!”, so we go to the checkout, where she discovers she DIDN’T have 5 euros. So we didn’t have enough money!* And as if that wasn’t bad enough, she poured cola on the cash desk because she had overfilled her beaker! Such fun going to the cinema with my sister!
*Luckily I could pay with my credit card :)

So today, I did all the schoolwork I had planned to do yesterday. My lessons are really interesting, but it’s so hard to actually start studying, isn’t it? But I have to if I don’t want to get behind...

Polka dot love

If you don’t already know I’m obsessed with polka dots, you’ll definitely know it after reading this post. When I look around in my room, I realise that I have quite a lot of polka dot clothes and other things!

Whoops!
Two dresses and one skirt not included! (I also have polka dot underwear, but I won’t show you those) I think they call me the polka dot girl by now…

And I still have a lot of polka dot clothes on my wish list. I really need summer now, so I can wear all these summer dresses! But first I need a lot of money to pay them all, haha.

Sophie Ellis Bextor in a lovely dress

I’m totally in love with this dress from eBay. The starting price was €1, but it finally sold for €65, crazy. I can just hope that someday I can buy it for €20 or something…
There is a polka-dot-pencil-skirt hole in my closet, so I need this. Yes, I tell myself that.

Aren’t these hot? Perfect for showing off your curves (Not that I have those, but still!). They’re from PinUp Girl Clothing, I love almost all of their dresses. Unfortunately they’re a little bit out of my price range…

Dita Von Teese

I love this dress Carrie’s wearing in the last episode of Sex and the City.
Lovely!
Dress & top from Vivien of Holloway. The top is on sale, only £20! Leave one for me, please :)
Me in my favourite dress (and a strange pose)
And at last, a gorgeous photo of polka dot shoes (don’t know the source, sorry).

Thank God it’s still a few months till summer, so I can save up to buy all of this!
Do you love polka dots as much as I do?

On my wishlist...

One of the disadvantages of being a student is never having enough money. My parents give me enough money to buy food and books for school, and I also get some pocket money but I think I just spend too much (whoops). At the moment I have so much on my wishlist, but no money to buy it...

I'll just show you some shoes that are on my wishlist now, some of them I will never have but there's nothing wrong with dreaming, is it?

I think my boyfriend is already tired of seeing this shoes, but I cant't stop talking about how much I want them. And how they would match every piece of clothing in my closet. And how I wouldn't have to buy shoes for the rest of the year (ahum) because these are just perfect... They're not really expensive (£35) but still out of my budget for the moment.

Vivienne Westwood Anglomania For Melissa Lady Dragon Heart Heeled Sandals

Yes, plastic shoes! That smell like bubblegum! I can't help loving these, they are so funny and cute. Now, I need to find €160...

Topshop 'Glitz'
Sometimes I feel like a lady, and then I want to wear these pretty shoes. I really like suede, and the pointed toe has made a comeback this year (I believe, I'm not really following fashion trends) and look at that little bow: it makes me think of a cat's whiskers!

Seriously!

Dorothy Perkins; not availabe anymore, snif!

I would wear these all day to go to uni. They're not too high (high heels + cobblestones = fail) and they're just perfect for me, nah. Unfortunately, they're sold out online and you can't find them anywhere else...

Another pair of polka dot shoes! Hey, I didn't name my blog 'Shoes, Polka dots and lots more' for nothing!
But if I had to choose, I think I would go for the Next shoes (the ones on the first picture), because red is my favourite color and these ones are just too expensive (£180).

Christian Louboutin Fifi 100mm

Christian Louboutin is my Shoe God. I wish to have at least one pair of Louboutins in my shoe collection (more are always welcome!) but I think I'll have to save a lot of money before I can get my hands on these babies...

I have a folder on my pc filled with shoes I like, so don't be afraid: lots more beautiful shoes to follow!

Have a nice day!

Siel xx

Shoe Challenge #2: Old Faithful

Hi everyone!

Today I managed to wear another pair of my shoe collection! Of course I wear shoes every day, but I don't have time to take pictures, or my outfit is just too boring to show you. So, this is what I wore:
What: Black lace up shoe boots from New Look
With: striped dress: H&m, red cardigan: Zara, jeans: Only, belt: no idea, polka dot socks ;)
When: Wednesday, March 2, 2011
Where: Just going to college and seeing some friends

Excuse the funny pose - it's the only way to capture my whole outfit! Oh and don't mind my socks, you're not supposed to see them ;)

About the shoes:

I bought these almost two years ago, and I don't think they'll live long anymore... They are completely worn out and hurt like hell. But I like them, so I decided to be brave and wear them one more day. I saw a pair that would be the perfect replacement a few weeks ago in New Look, but they didn't have my size... They had all sizes, except mine! Seriously, does everybody have size 8/41 now or what? Now my only chance is to go to the New Look store in Brussels to see if they have my size there. But unfortunately, I have spent already all my money for this week, so I'll have to wait till next week...

I did something really spectacular (for me) with my hair today:

I was inspired by this tutorial, and I was really surprised that it turned out quite good! Actually this was the first time that happens. Normally, I do everything the girl in the tutorial does, but my hair ends up looking terrible. But with this one, it turned out pretty good! I got a lot of compliments on my hair today, so I'll definitely wear it again. It's rather easy and it doesn't take much time.

The backview:

It doesn't look perfect, but I kinda liked it.

After some lessons, I went for a hot chocolate and a little raspberrie pie (mmmm!) but I wasn't happy when I saw the bill: €7,70! I'm not stingy, but that's really expensive, don't you think? Almost 5 euros for a little pie? It wasn't even that good!
(If you know Leuven, it was in 'Le Pain Quotidien' in Parijsstraat. Never go there!)

So now I'm off to do some schoolwork, yay!
